Void privileges that still let a busy counter move

Cashiers ask for open void rights because guests change their minds. Managers grant them for speed. Months later, void volume climbs on the quietest hours of the week.

A workable middle path we recommend during privilege assessments: cashiers may void an open ticket they themselves created within five minutes; anything older, or any ticket with a payment attached, needs a shift-lead PIN. Train leads to stand near the till during peak rather than hide in the back office—approvals stay fast when the person with the PIN is already on the floor.

Sample your void report every fortnight. Look for repeats by user and by hour. Patterns matter more than a single clumsy mistake during a rush.
